Friends,

I have wrapped up the third week here in Annapolis which has been full of committee briefings and hearings, along with meeting many stakeholders across Maryland.

The Week
Last week, Ihad the privilege of speaking with the National Federation for the Blind and learned more about this great organization and its priorities. Additionally, my committee, the Environment and
Transportation Committee, had briefings from Maryland Departments of Environment and Agriculture, along with presentations from the Maryland Association of Counties and the Maryland Municipal Leagues.

Reports were shared with the committee on rental assistance programs and climate concerns. We are getting a lot of information to make sure we are prepared to make decisionson the issues.
Bill hearings have begun in most committees last week. Often bills of similar subject are assigned to be heardon the same day. The Environmentand Transportation Committee (ENT) deals with issues of the
environment, transportation, housing, and local government. We heard proposed bills on housing yesterday and will now have regular bill hearings each week on the schedule.

Action Taken
• Filed two bills this week and am looking to prepare for their hearings in the upcoming weeks.
• Discussed bond initiatives with representatives of St. Mary’s Ryken, Greenwell and the Second District Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

Earlier this Session
On Wednesday, January 11th, the General Assembly convened to begin its legislative session. I was one of the forty new freshman delegates to be sworn in. I have hit the ground running – my years as a County Commissioner and serving on the MACO Legislative Committee have served me well.

I also had the privilege of observing the Swearing-In ceremony for Governor Wes Moore on Wednesday in the Senate Chamber. It was truly aonce in a lifetime experience. The pomp and circumstance displayed the rich history of the State of Maryland.
